Are We Afraid To Spend Money? Or Are We Just Savvy Spenders?
By: DJR | July 13th, 2007
With the summer transfer market in full swing, and the Toffees not doing much David Moyes has voiced his complaints to the club website.
“I think there has been some irresponsible buying and spending by some clubs and it makes it a bit more difficult if you’ve got less money to spend than that,” he said.
“We’d like to add to the squad and I know the supporters are desperate to see new faces coming in, no more so than me, but things out there in the market are tight.
“But we are certainly doing everything we can to strengthen the squad and give ourselves a chance. We’ve done it that way for the past few years and we’ll continue to do so.”
This really isn’t what I wanted to hear from Moyes, but at least he’s saying something. With the big four spending their money and teams like Tottenham and Portsmouth both dropping big $$$ on players I feel like we aren’t doing what we need to reach a higher level or even stay at the same level for that matter. I don’t think it would take too much to stay at the same level we are at right now. If you break it down we are actual pretty solid all the way around.
We have Johnson up front who I feel is one of the better striker in the league and Vaughan and Anichebe are still young and are showing that they both have what it takes. In the middle you have Arteta, Cahill, Neville, Van der Meyde, Osman and Carsley. Arteta and Cahill are both world class and Phil Neville is our rock. With the signing of Jagielka we have cemented the back line to go along with Yobo and Lescott. Let’s not forget that we have one of the best goal keepers in the Premiership in Timmy Howard.
I still would like to see another striker to go along side Johnson up front and another solid midfield and back player also. I actually applauded Everton for not getting Nugent, I think £6 million is way too much for him right now. He hasn’t proven anything in the Premier League yet. That’s neither here nor there right now as we haven’t got anyone new up front. I guess it’s possible that Moyes could bring in both Alan Smith and Keiran Richardson, but after hearing his comments I wouldn’t hold my breath. I would be surprised if we spent any money at all for the remainder of the transfer season. Hopefully we do and hopefully Moyes is just saving the best for last!

I wish I could say the same about Everton. I do happen to enjoy a Liverpudlian side, I just have to admit that it is the one that wears red.
Regarding Caen, I really really hope that they can stay up…..one reason is that I will have little to write about in Ligue 2. I dont think there would be a snowball’s chance in hell of watching their games.

WHAT I AND I OTHER FANS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS WHERE HAS ALL THE MONEY RECEIVED OVER THE LAST THREE SEASONS GONE.I KNOW SOME OF IT HAS COVERED WAGES AND RUNNING COSTS OF THE CLUB,BUT COME ON, WE HAVE ONLY ABOUT THREE OR FOUR PLAYERS ON TOP WAGES AND I AM NOT TALKING ANY WERE NEAR £100,00 A WEEK LIKE THE TOP FOUR OR FIVE CLUBS PAY.WE USE TO BE ONE OF THE TOP FOUR CLUBS A FEW YEARS AGO,BUT NOT NOW.IT DOESN`T MATTER HOW MANY FANS GO TO EACH HOME GAME OR HOW FAR WE GO IN ANY OF THE CUP COMPETITIONS HERE OR IN EUROPE,OR HOW FAR UP THE LEAGUE WE FINISH EVERTON FOOTBALL CLUB NEVER PROGRESSES.I AM 62 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN A EVERTON FAN SINCE I WAS 12 YEARS OLD.

Stuart, I was wondering the same thing about where all the money is going. I would like to think that we can stay competitive with the big four, but if we are going to keep looking at our finances and never take a chance I doubt that will ever happen.

Sunderlands signing of Richardson is the last of DM. prospective signings…all those players that have expressed their desire to play for the Blues, have waited for Dithering Davy to come and get them, Instead he headed off to the sun on his holidays, and expected these young up and coming players to sit around and wait for Moyes and Co to come with silly offers! as DM himself called them..To say That DM & BK are now an embarresment!! would be an understatement…
These two clowns had the Glorious opportunity to restore former glories to Goodison when we last qualified for europe..They did Nothing but stall…empty excuses like those they are making right now…(Quote): Other lower placed clubs are making stupid offers for average players…If that is the case why are we interested in them? You are both embarrasing our club, your supporters, and the once Glorious Name of Everton Fc..
I love them with all of my heart, Just hope we dont exit europe This year, as brutal as we did last time..Posted from
