Everton wins efficiently over Macclesfield Town
By: 21 | January 4th, 2009
The splendor of the FA Cup continued as League Two Macclesfield Town put forth a brilliant effort in front of their home supporters but fell to Everton 1-0. Before the match their was a great deal of concern of the conditions of the pitch, given the recent cold snap but it passed a pre-match inspection with flying colours and the match was off and running.
It was a nervy match for David Moyes’ forces as the League Two side was stingy in allowing scoring opportunities and came close themselves a few times before the break. Terry Dunfield and Nat Brown came close for the home side each but each effort steered off target. Finally just before the half Leon Osman volleyed home a poor clearance from sixteen meters and Everton had the lead. Following the break, Everton locked down attacking opportunities for the most part and while they squandered a series of chances to take the 1-0 lead. Remarkably as the match was winding down former Everton man John Rooney trotted on the pitch and Macclesfield Town seemed to get a big lift. In the final strike of the match Simon Yeo came close to breaking through Tim Howard, however it was not to be and the Toffees advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
