Everton and Chelsea play to draw
By: 21 | December 22nd, 2008
As you look back over a season, with its many ups and downs, the tough points from draws you squeeze out have a massive impact upon overall position in the table. Everton’s draw against Chelsea, with the Toffees tremendously strapped in man-power due to injuries is clearly one of those important matches. With Victor Anichebe and Louis Saha both unable to go, Timmy Cahill was pressed into the strikers role again as David Moyes committed to a 4-5-1 attack. Chelsea started the match with greater intensity but ten minutes before the break John Terry was shown a straight red for a grievous tackle on Leon Osman. Chelsea certainly lost their calm at that time and a few minutes before break Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole were shown yellow-cards for constant complaining to the referee. With the restart the Toffees began to show more confidence however on the hour mark, the injury situation dug a bit deeper as Joseph Yobo had to leave with a hamstring injury. Nearing the seventy minute mark, Everton created solid scoring opportunities and continued througout the balance of the match, most notably Steven Pienaar’s goal with six minutes that was disallowed as he was ruled offside. However without a goal the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Haven’t watched a lot of Everton, but I have to say Pienaar looked absolutely horrific. Was this a typical game for him or what? Dreadful.
