Donovan’s Bright Start and Everton’s Late Agony
By: Paul | January 10th, 2010Landon Donovan produced a superb debut for Everton all things considered as he weighed in with an assist before Everton succumbed to a late deflected goal to deprive them of what, on the face of it, was a worthy victory.
The toffees claimed a share of the spoils at thr Emirates for the second season running but it could and perhaps should have been more after a dramatic day in North London.
Arsenal huffed and puffed but did not open up Everton many times as a backline well marshalled by the impressive Heitinga looked set to claim a superb victory.
After Pienaars sumptuous chip put the toffees ahead with the clock ticking down Arsenal scored their second deflected goal of the day to break Toffee’s hearts.
Donovan had been replaced jsut after the hour as he understandably tired, experiencing the hurly burly of the Premier League for the first time.
Overall Moyes can take great heart from this display with Maroune Fellani in particular continuing to grow into his defensive midfielders role while the back four performed as a solid cohesive unit.
Hopefully we can take this into the next game as we begin to see the squad comign back to something like full strength
