a quandary
By: 21 | October 4th, 2008I have a quandary on discussing Newcastle right now like many good natured Football fans. I do not enjoy watching “train wrecks” and Newcastle right now is spiraling down, which most of it caused from matters off the pitch. The thought of another institution lost to the money-madness of Football and shenanigans of owners doesn’t sit right with me so in previewing this match I’m going to stick closely to the facts.
That said, Newcastle might be the single-best club to stop a losing skid so the Toffees know full-well to take advantage of the advantageous scheduling. However with the rain pouring down, literally and figuratively, it won’t be so easy at Goodison. Everton is likely without Louis Saha (such a shock) and Phil Neville with injuries in the Standard Liege match. Steven Pienaar is good-to-go but your favourite Aussie Timmy Cahill will also be missing for the next three matches with last weeks red-card.
Newcastle is approaching full strength with Habib Beye, Jose Enrique back from injury, Danny Guthrie is kicking around for a spot in the lineup. Jonas Gutierrez isn’t quite ready and he joins Mark Viduka and Alan Smith on the sidelines. Newcastle has proven to be a bit “feisty” of late, not a good feisty like Standard Liège but a late consolation goal feisty that makes you wonder if they can come back. Everton will need to watch Michael Owen as he is scoring at a deadly pace of late and could throw a wrench into victory celebration plans.
Enjoy the match ~
